The Terracotta Army in Rows

An army assembled once, for one emperor, and never marched

The Terracotta Army in Rows

City anchorXi'an City

Best time
October to April for thin crowds; summer offers the coolest pit interiors despite the heat outside.
Stay
Half day to one full day

A way throughPit 1 for the army, Pit 3 for the command post, the bronze chariot hall for craft, then the mausoleum mound if the weather holds.

On the wayTourist buses 5 and 306 run from Xi'an station; the site is about 40 km northeast of the city wall.

With respectThis is a working excavation: no flash at close range, no touching the figures, and follow the rope lines exactly.

Seasonal experience

Winter weekday morning

Take the quiet bridge at Pit 1 slowly

Start at Pit 1 when doors open, walk the full viewing bridge once without stopping, then return to the middle platform and stay with one soldier until you can see his face and his fingerprints.

Why now
Thin winter crowds return the site to an archaeological scale instead of a queue experience.
Time needed
3 to 4 hours for all pits and the museum
Plan before you go
Book the timed entry online, keep your ticket for re-entry points, and confirm the shuttle between pits in winter.
