September to November for clear-summit odds; summer for the most reliable cloud sea.
Stay
One to two days

A way throughBase in Baoguo Temple area, ride to Leidongping, summit for dawn, then descend through the middle-monastery zone on foot.

On the wayHigh-speed rail from Chengdu reaches Emeishan station in about an hour; shuttle buses cover the mountain gates.

With respectThis is an active pilgrimage mountain: clockwise circuits around the golden statue, quiet near halls, and alms etiquette observed.

Seasonal experience

First cable car of a clear autumn morning

Reach the summit before the crowds, stay for the light

Take the first cable car from Leidongping, walk the last stairs to the golden terrace while the cloud sea is still unbroken, and let the morning sun climb the brass face of the hall before the tour groups arrive.

Why now
Morning cloud is the point: by noon the sea usually breaks up, and the summit becomes an ordinary viewpoint.
Time needed
One to two days with an overnight near the summit for dawn
Plan before you go
Book summit-region lodging ahead in high season; monkeys along the trail will grab loose items — keep bags zipped and food hidden.
